Bisturiul face "minuni"

Michael Jackson - Thriller

Michael Jackson’s Thriller

Michael Jackson’s Thriller is a 14-minute movie and a music video for the song of the same name released on December 2, 1983 and directed by John Landis, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jackson. Guinness World Records listed it in 2006 as the “most successful music video”, selling over 9 million units.

Often referred to as the greatest music video ever, Thriller proved to have a profound effect on popular culture, and was named “a watershed moment for the [music] industry” for its unprecedented merging of filmmaking and music.

“Thriller” was the first Michael Jackson music video to feature the logos for Columbia Pictures, Paramount Pictures and Epic Records Productions at the beginning. It was less a conventional music video and more a full-fledged short subject or mini-film: a horror film homage featuring choreographed zombies performing with Jackson. The music was re-edited to match the video, with the verses being sung one after the other followed by the ending rap from Vincent Price, then the main dance sequence to an instrumental loop, and a climactic dance segment with Jackson singing the choruses. During the video, Jackson transforms into both a werewolf and a zombie; familiar territory for Landis, who had directed An American Werewolf in London two years earlier. The video was also a crossover because MTV at the time did not regularly air black musicians. Jackson became one of the first African American musicians to prominently feature on the station.

The Story of LA: Going Away Party Edition

Now I know we also covered the Going Away Party but there’s aaaalways mooooore. Coincidentally, the party happened to fall on Michael Jackson’s birthday. If you know any of the people in these pictures, then you know you’re looking at some hardcore Michael Jackson fans. Who the hell knew that an ill-advised taller-than-lifesize dummy of Michael Jackson would come in handy on SO MANY occasions! Oh the hilarity!

We begin our evening with Ray whispering secrets into MJ's ear. MJ is thrilled.

Kristyn and MJ get kind of...friendly.

Aleix and Michael are so close that they are known to walk on the Wildwood Boardwalk like this together. They're in love and they don't care who knows it!

Silvia, Ray and MJ are always clownin around together. Oh you guys!

I've immortalized Angie in a moment of abandon!

Silvia, Michael, Kristyn, Angie and Ray pose for the Paparazzi.

This is everyone engaged in their solitary pursuits in a down moment of the party. We all took a much deserved breather from the excitement.

And Chewy came to see us!!! Aleix and Cristina are happy to see him.

Nothing like inviting your friends over to hang out with your inflatable mattress...

Silvie Sophie made a pretty buttafly.

I had released the Halloween costumes into the party (obviously) and Ray managed to give himself bangs using a beard, use my Prostitute costume to make himself into a Pink Lady and get MJ in on the act. Good times.

Ray and Angie getting sexual, as usual. God get a room! (Them's just jokes.)

We had a great time with everyone and were sad to see everyone go!

Michael Jackson's Health Problems, Michael Jackson Memorial

Author: Aldric Chang
Source: ezinearticles.com

The problem with being a superstar is that all eyes are focused on you. One small move and it is already documented, talked about and dissected. So you can just imagine what Michael Jackson had to go through when through the years his appearance started to change.

MJ started to change his look drastically. And this was no simple hairdo makeover or fashion change. Michael grew up in front of many people as the lead singer of the Jacksons 5 when he was very young – and it is well-established that he is of African-American descent.

But by the mid-1980s, the changes were harder to ignore. His skin tone started to become whiter and whiter. His nose suffered an injury while he was working on a musical project. Because of this he underwent rhinoplasty or nose surgery. He was also observed to have undergone a forehead lift, cheekbone surgery and an altering of the lips. This was even more marked during his later years: his hair was now straight; his entire body was of a white skin tone, his lips seemed to have enlarged a bit and he had a cleft chin put up.

Imagine by the year 1990, close friends of Michael Jackson have estimated that he already had ten cosmetic procedures. If that was a fast trend for him, just how many more did he do after 19 years?

A friend of Michael for 20 years, Dr. Deepak Chopra had this to say: “What became his compulsion with cosmetic surgery was an expression of self-mutilation, a total lack of respect for himself.”

In a move that is still being argued as just a PR move, MJ was said to have been diagnosed in the mid-1980s to have the condition called vitiligo. This announcement was pronounced in the midst of rumors that he was bleaching his skin. Vitiligo is a condition where patches of skin seem to lose its melanin and become a bit white.

Michael has also been said to have the lethal condition, “Michael Jackson“, that is lupus which made him sensitive to sunlight. Because of this he depended on Solaquin, Tretinoin and Benoquin to compensate. He was also applying hydroxychloroquine injections in his scalp for the same purpose.

According to J. Randy Taraborrelli, these medications contributed to his paler skin.

His weight also plummeted down because he had this desire to be in a dancer’s body, so to speak. His lowest weight was at 105 pounds and mind you, he was five foot eleven.

Another issue with Michael has been his dependence on prescription drugs especially painkillers and strong sedatives. Because of these, it has been widely observed that his health deteriorated. MJ admitted this in 1993 when he said that he was taking painkillers Valium, Xanax and Ativan to try to compensate with the stress of dealing with the child sexual abuse charges hailed against him.

Right at this time, MJ was said to have lost about ten pounds and has stopped eating regularly. He would then be observed to be drowsy and lacked concentration. This then triggered speculations that MJ was suffering from anorexia nervosa.

In fact, in 1995 Michael Jackson was rushed to the hospital after collapsing during rehearsals, “Michael Jackson“, for a televised performance which was subsequently cancelled. This is why during the onset of the news that MJ was now dead, several showbiz gossip columnists such as Perez Hilton dismissed it as a publicity stunt – because it had a precedent.

But as it turned out it was no joke or PR campaign. It was real. The King of Pop succumbed early and was gone too soon.

Michael Jackson’s health problems were for real.

Don’t Call it a Comeback, I’ve Been Here For Years

American Music Awards

Janet starts the night off wonderfully in my honest opinion. She danced and ended with “Together Again” a song about one of her friends who passed from AIDS but the lyrics were so appropriate for Michael. RIP King of Pop, your sister made you proud tonight.

If you don’t know by now, know that I’m a Lady GaGa fan. I love her and I believe she was great tonight! Some people on Twitter complain about her but how boring would this world be if everyone performed like each other? Don’t compare her to Rihanna. That’s disrespectful; live with the fact that Beyonce does her thing as does Rihanna, Brandy and any other artist out there. Variety isn’t bad people.

Lady GaGa

Shakira! Shakira! (In my best Wyclef voice) I thought her performance was interesting. The stepshow in the beginning threw me off for a little but it was cool. What HBCU did she go to for those moves? Very cool.

Rihanna…*sigh* I like her, I do but she’s really turned to the dark side! I’m worried about the girl. The songs I’ve heard from the album are all dark and dreary. If it works for her then hey, I can’t complain. Her album drops this Tuesday November 24, 2009.

Whitney. “I was not built to break” No, you weren’t and you didn’t! I love you for that and you will always be one of my favorite singer’s J Great job tonight, GREAT job!! Whitney and Mary J Blige were my favorites!

And then there was JLo. She’s making a comeback this year with her new single, “Louboutins” I believe some little hoodrats will 1.) Start singing this song and have no clue what they are OR 2.) People will think she’s saying Louis Vuitton. FTL ….And did anyone see that fall? Yeah, they edited it out of the west coast version but east coast saw it cool and clear ;-)

The fuckery of the night in my book, Taylor Swift winning what 5 awards? When will the sympathy votes end? Kayne is somewhere punching the daylights out of a punching bag. He boosted her career. Yes, I know she was doing well before the Kanye outburst, but seriously, “The Kanye Effect” has benefited her more than anything. Tonight on Twitter I stated that she could sneeze in a movie and win an Oscar. Seriously, I believe it and if these sympathy votes keep going on, it will happen! And how did this little girl beat MJ for entertainer of the year? She didn’t sell more records than the King of Pop. UGH! Where is Kanye when you need him?!

Lord of the Kids

Traduzione in italiano di Billie Jean - Micheal Jackson

Informazioni sul testo:

- Artista ed Interprete: Michael Jackson;

- Album: Thriller;

- Anno di pubblicazione: 1982.

Il testo:

BILLIE JEAN

“Attento a chi ami”

Quindi voi pretendete i miei forti consigli

I suoi occhi guardavano i miei

ecc…

Throwback Thurs.

Well I wanted to do a Wayback Wed but i was told that today is Thursday, I digress. Fact is…I love older music than the new noise that’s being shoved at us 24/7 by Clear Channel & Radio One. This is where my Ipod and good ol’ computer (named Jimi Jules Basquiat) comes in. Both are an instant gateway into the yesteryear of great musicdom (new word alert). To start off this momentous addition to The (Re)Fresh Button, I give you:

Hearing this song at a young age got me into older soul music. At the time I’d say I was listening to Hammer, NWA Ghetto Boys etc and had just written off my parents music as “Old Folks music”. We live and we learn though so I am glad I got a slap to the back of the head from Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, Al Green and countless others who would come to shape my thoughts on what timeless music should sound like.

Better Today

I’m feeling a little better today. For the last two days, I was a literal basket case. I couldn’t function. I literally laid in bed, too tired to move. I tried logging onto Max Jax, but I could barely put two words together. Today, though, I can sit upright and type. I go see the nutritionist in Joliet today, for a pre-op visit. I keep getting stuff from the surgeon’s office saying they don’t have any of my stuff, although I know my doctor has sent it all in. I’m going to have to do it myself. I’ll call the clinic this morning to see that they’ve sent it. And have a copy sent to me, so I can double send it. I really need this to go through. So much is riding on it.

I’d like to go see This Is It again today, too. It gets harder with every time though. I cry through all of Thriller, because I know that was one of his last ones. I still really miss him. Really, really miss him. You never know how important someone really is until they are gone. God, I miss you Mike.

Day...51.

yikes. its been a while since i’ve updated.  reason being, we had a tragic death in my family.  so its been a sadness that brings on a whole different kind of weight.

just to bring you(which is no one, btw) up to speed…

  • ive lost 14 lbs.
  • i run almost every day, unless im sick with something or too tired to move from work.
  • i actually enjoy running. i completely enjoy it. its a relief. its a getaway. i love it.
  • im starting dance classes this week…yikes right?
  • even when im not being SUPER strict on myself while sick or sad or whatever, i’ve realized my eating habits have changed drastically. i tend to choose salads over steaks, and water over anything else really.
  • tonight i ran a mile and then sprinted for as long as my body could take it. then i ate dinner(peas and tilapia)
  • i’ve been more lenient on myself as far as my original NO SALT NO FLAVOR NO SUGAR rules.  if its unbearable i add a little something here or there but my heavy handedness has vanished.  i think ive learned, its just. not. worth. it.
  • my clothes are starting to hang off me a bit. i feel so much better about myself, and i dont feel sick all the time.  which is amazing.
  • i’ve skipped a bit of vitamin taking..which is bad, but im back on them, and i DO eat lots of vegetables, still dont like fruit very much. bleh.  working on it.
  • as far as my inspiration derek hough, well, he and joanna krupa are still kickin it on Dancing with the Stars.  He was a bit mean to her but of course they LOVE to show those dramatic little moments on TV.  they are busting their tails and if I knew them i would be proud of them, but since i don’t all i can do is admire them and continue to be inspired by the change in my own life.
  • my whole life is different because i saw Derek dance.  who knew.  i used to think the television was crap, but i have a different opinion these days.
  • lastly, if you haven’t seen “This Is It” the Michael Jackson film, you are missing out. truly. you are.  talk about inspiration.  wow, just incredible.  so much love and patience.  how he maintained that constant encouraging attitude, i will never know.

its been a while but im back.  can’t wait to increase my workout routine with some much needed DANCE.  woohoo!

My Latest Celebrity-Inspired Barbie Artworks

Check out some of my latest celebrity-inspired artworks below! I’m in the process of having my website re-designed so the inventory on it hasn’t been updated in ages. Believe me when I say that this is just a sampling of what I’ve been up to lately. Let me hear your thoughts in the comments!

OBAMA & THE FIRST LADY DANCING ON TOP OF THE WORLD, $1,500.00

Barak Obama is dressed in a Tux. I transformed him from an MC Hammer doll. I had to repaint his face, cut off the ponytail and get rid of the corn rows and give him new hair with a bit of a gray tone to it. Michelle is dressed in a gown I made from a beaded blouse. I did a partial repaint of her face and gave her eyelashes and ear rings.

RICHARD BRANSON

Custom Order (SOLD)

R.I.P. MICHAEL JACKSON, $400.00

Michael is dressed in a white nylon outfit which has a bear chest. His jacket flows as does his neck scarf. His wings have a slight glitter glow that will glow in the dark. He is mounted on a piece of fabric that depicts the sky with beautiful clouds. The frame does not have glass in it as the wings extend outside the gold frame.

BARBIE AND NAPOLEON DYNAMITE GET MARRIED, $150 on Etsy

Winner of the 2ND Place Ribbon at the 2008 International Fashion Doll Convention

Barbie is getting married to Napoleon Dynamite. Her wedding gown is white satin in a rouch design and is trimmed with lace, pearls and sequins. Napoleon is in a painted black suit and tie with is jacket draped over his shoulder. The bride has blond hair. I have sewn on eyelashes. She has green eyes and orange lips.

GENE SIMMONS BEGS BARBIE FOR A KISS, $150 on Etsy

Gene Simmons tongue is out (as usual) and his face is painted in black and white. I have designed Barbie’s dress in a zebra print which also matched the zebra print chair she set on. I put a black ribbon around her neck and made her a skull cap made of black and silver sequins. I gave her heavy eye make up and sewn on some eye lashes and repainted her lips.

he's the king - i'm the dj

Special edition shirt + mix combo dedicated to the memory of the undisputed king of pop from UNDRCRWN. The one and only Jazzy Jeff did the honors of blending his favorite MJ jams together for this project, and as expected, it sounds phenomenal – a proper tribute for sure. Cool graphic too, harking back to that early DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince cover, but with MJ takin’ his proper place along side as the king. Standard fit/100% cotton.

Water on the Moon

Google.com pop up its logo as “Water on the Moon” that NASA discovered.

When I was in High School of MWIT (Mahidol Wittayanusorn Science School), my professor who was the expert in Astronomy showed us the video that made against NASA, that NASA had never gone to the moon. The video talked about NASA took the video in some secret place in the United State’s desert. Although my professor let us know what the world thought about the NASA, he still said that he believed that NASA had really gone to the moon.

You can see that people are looking for a new place to live, rather than make their original place better. They really plan to live on the Moon or Mar, because the world is now going bad. People keep destroying the natural environment without consideration. We are actually hopeless. Million people are fans of Michael Jackson, and they sing “Heal the World”. How many percents of those people really really heal the world? People consume too much natural resources, and release a lot of toxic. If you are one of those people, you are killing your friends then!

KA by Cirque De Soleil

Last night I went to my first show since I moved to Vegas. KÀ is a show by Cirque du Soleil at the MGM Grand. Created and directed by Robert Lepage, the show and the theater cost $220 million to develop.

Even though I was pretty lost as far as the plot was concerned, The production and theatrics was AMZING. KÀ lacks a conventional stage with a permanent floor; instead, two giant moving platforms and five smaller lifts and platforms appear to float through a bottomless space. A narrow boardwalk separates the audience from a deep abyss where the stage floor would normally be. From the stage level of the boardwalk up to the high grid is 98 feet, and the pit drops 51 feet below, amounting to a total of some 15 stories from the highest ceiling grid to the lowest floor level. The opening width and depth of the performance area are each 120 feet. This enormous performance space is reconfigured with each scene change by the complex movements of the show’s lifts and platforms.

Overall the show was DANQ and would highly recommend seeing it while you are in Vegas.

This is It
La film documentaire retraçant les répetitions du King Of Pop pour son show This Is it. On aurait aimé voir ça.

Easy V.

Tribute to the King

A dance tribute to Michael Jackson

Stockholm

Bucharest

E agora faculdade! SI SI CLARO

Escena Borrada: Brüno y La Toya Jackson.

Christmas Doesn't Come Early

by ssjrem

Pretty much every year, there’s at least one Christmas movie that gets released the first weekend of November. And I just don’t get it. Literally, the very second that Halloween is over, we jump to Christmas. Well, I do get it, I guess. It’s all about money. Christmas movies generally have good legs and studios want them to have as long a ride as they possibly can, but no movie can maintain itself for two whole months. By the time Christmas actually rolls around, the movie has probably fallen out of the top ten or is at least close. I say release them on Thanksgiving weekend or the first weekend of December. You still get like four weeks to rake in the dough and then you get much bigger Christmas benefits because the picture is still relevant when the actual holiday rolls around. That’s just my opinion. I’m not a studio executive. I am but a lowly blogger. Anyway, let’s get this show on the road.

A Christmas Carol

I’m not alone in finding this motion capture animation shit really creepy. The Polar Express looked like one of the most profoundly disturbing movies I’ve ever seen. Thus, I never had any intention of seeing it and I’m not particularly interested in this latest adaption of A Christmas Carol. Most predictions, mine included, pegged this in the low to mid 40s range and it fell a bit short. A Christmas Carol grossed 31 million, which is kind of weak. Consider that Elf, a movie without any 3-D or other gimmicks, opened to the same exact figure six years ago. If I do say so myself, though, Elf is both a hilarious and heartwarming movie. Plus, I love Zooey Deschanel and she made the movie even better. But where is my mind? Yeah, this is kind of disappointing. Assuming it’s well-received though, it could still do quite well. We have Thanksgiving in three weeks and A Christmas Carol could see a nice bump from that. I’d still say it’s pretty much a lock for 100 million no matter what happens because Christmas movies, even those that aren’t particularly well-liked (The Santa Clause 3) still have good legs. So even though this is under expectations, I think that it’ll do fine in the long run.

Michael Jackson’s This is It

Yep, still using that same picture. This is It does actually hold pretty decently, especially for a concert movie. It fell 40% to 14 million, lifting the grand total up to about 58 million. So it’s definitely going to beat the Hannah Montana movie by a longshot and become the highest grossing concert movie of all time. Good for him, I guess. I still don’t understand the appeal of this movie, but people are weird. As for a grand total, I could see this potentially hitting somewhere around 85 to 90 million or so, handily beating Miley Cyrus’s 65 million. Even still, it’s nowhere near some of the more outlandish predictions, but all things considered, this is a success. Plus, MJ is really big overseas, which makes no sense to me at all. Any you slice it, this will end being quite profitable.

I saw The Men Who Stare at Goats on Friday. It’s pretty much inevitable that I’ll end up going to the movies once during a weekend. I gotta say, it just plain wasn’t funny. It wasn’t even good. I’ll probably have a review up sometime this week. I just didn’t get anything from this movie. Any remotely funny parts were in the trailer and it just kind of, well, sucked. It did pretty well at the box office, though, pulling in 13.3 million. It’s rocking a 59% at RT, so I’m not seeing good legs here. Its budget was only 25 million, though, so it should still end up being profitable.

The Fourth Kind does pretty decently, finishing just behind TMWSAG. 12.5 million is pretty solid for a horror flick kind of similar to Paranormal Activity. This has a dreadful 16% at RT and will probably fall apart after this weekend. It’s nice to see Milla Jovovich in something outside the Resident Evil franchise, though. Oh yeah, I just now noticed that it finished in fourth. An interesting coincidence, no?

Paranormal Activity fell 48%, its largest drop so far by a good margin, but it’s not that surprising given the fact that Halloween is passed us now. The gross stands at 97.4 million, so it’ll obviously get past 100, which is an astonishing accomplishment. Hmmmm, 8.6 million this weekend, but it’s just hard to judge what kind of path this will follow in the weeks to come. I’d say it could finish with anywhere from 110 to 135 million. Something like that.

The Box fares by far the worst among the four openers, finishing in sixth with just 7.9 million. The Box has a 45% at RT which, while better than The Fourth Kind, still kind of sucks. The Box is based on a Twilight Zone episode from back in the day. The episode was written by Richard Matheson, the author of I Am Legend. I really do recommend the book; it’s fantastic and way better than the movie. I’m not saying the movie was bad by any means; I enjoyed it a lot, but the book was great. Anyway……

This doesn’t make sense to me. Somehow Couples Retreat fell 0.5% percent. Yeah, half a percent. It didn’t add any theatres and hasn’t had great legs thus far, so I’m baffled. Regardless, a 6.4 million dollar weekend lifts it just shy of 100 million at 96 million. It’ll inch over that milestone and for such a critically reviled movie, that’s quite an accomplishment.

Law Abiding Citizen also falls an absurdly low amount, decling 17% to 6.2 million. This movie really surpassed expectations with a solid opening weekend and then decent legs all the way through. It’s up to 60 million now and could finish with about 70 or 75 or so, which is pretty close to as much as I possibly could’ve expected from this. Good for Gerard Butler. He deserves it.

Where the Wild Things Are finally has a decent hold, slipping 28% to 4.2 million. It really is extraordinary that Law Abiding Citizen had significantly better legs than WTWTA. Anyway, its gross is now up to 60 million, which is way below expectations. It won’t even come near Bridge to Terabithia. Speaking of which, I have yet to see that movie. I loved the book as a kid; I’ll have to check it out.

Anywho, in tenth we have Astro Boy managing to stick around. 2.6 million brings its meager grand total to 15 million. Against a 65 million budget, that sucks. But like I said last weekend, Summit will be fine with New Moon coming in two short weeks.

So there you have it. Second weekend in a row we have a movie underperform. Eh, it happens. Next weekend brings us Pirate Radio, but that’s only opening in 900 theatres and not expected to make a big splash. The big story next weekend is 2012. Now, you want to talk outlandish predictions, look no further. Lots of people are prediction numbers positively through the roof for this. There are a lot of people that think it can hit a 100 million opening weekend. I think they’re absolutely out of their fucking minds. If 2012 opens to more than 100 million I will buy everyone on the Chez staff a candy bar. There is NO WAY it will open that big. It’s just absurd. Personally, I think it might have a hard time even surpassing The Day After Tomorrow. I’ll call a 75-80 million weekend with 90 being the upper limit. But 100? I just can’t see that. We’ll see what goes down next weekend. Until we meet again.

The box. . .Bad news?

So I know that im deffinatley going to see this movie. Cameron Diaz is one of my all time favourite actress’s and I know she can pull a great performance. How ever, Her new film Titled The box didn’t do so well in the box office. Apparently it only racked in $7 mil. And Cameron’s not alone! MJ’s This Is It continues to slide down the box office earnings, with the doc only expected to earn $13-$15 million by the weekend’s close.

this is it

valeu! recomendo, muito. this is it.

Orianthi Panagaris Rocks

First time I saw her I didn’t realize what I had seen. Now that I’ve seen “This is It” all I can say is “Wow!”

Orianthi Panagaris was one of 2 guitar players hired for Michael Jackson’s ill fated final concert series in London. And if you’ve seen AEG’s “This Is It” you know what I mean, this lady rocks!

She’s a 24 year old Australian who picked up the acoustic guitar at six, the electric guitar at 11, by 15 was writing and performing – and has been described by The New York Times as a Carlos Santana protégé. The pair met and jammed while Santana was touring Australia and the following quote from Santana appears on Panagaris’ MySpace page: “If I was going to pass the baton to somebody, she would be my first choice”.

Good news is she’s been signed to Geffen records to a deal all her own. While not the rock edge that I was so impressed with, it’s a great entrance onto the pop/rock stage.

Watch her video here

Then have a look at this live stage performance.

Oriantho Panagaris is someone to watch. I can’t wait to hear more from her!

Music Turns Me On, and Fun vs. Money.

NaNoWriMo word count as of this moment: 4,355. Uh oh. I took yesterday off from writing and now I have to make up for it. But for once, I am not here to talk about NaNoWriMo! I am here to talk about… well… my day.

I went to see This Is It with some girls from work. I want to start by saying that I loved it. I sat in wide eyed wonder, at times literally clutching my hands to my heart, feeling like all I wanted to do was go home and practice dancing because dancing makes life worth living. That being said… well, it felt a bit slapdash to me. I suppose because perhaps it was a little bit slapdash. It’s not like this footage was ever intended to be released as a film. I would assume that, at least.

Oh, and am I the only one who feels like the “dancer” who speaks right before the opening credits is 100% an actor? He seemed like a big fake faker right from the moment he opened his mouth, and the fact that he ended his schpiel with the words “this is it”? Uuuuuugh…

Anyway, great movie, for what it is, and I do recommend seeing it in theatres if you’re a Michael Jackson fan at all. One thing it makes me realize is that great music totally turns me on. Not like I was sitting there in the movie theatre getting all horned up watching Michael Jackson do his thing or whatever, but just in the sense that watching him sing and dance definitely made me think he had some sex appeal, even as a frail and I dare say disfigured 50 year old. It’s weird for me to say that, too, because my personal hypothesis about MJ is that he wasn’t a pedophile, but rather, a true asexual. So generally, even when I look at pictures of him as a young man, before things really took a turn for the worse, I don’t see anything sexy about him. Annnnnd then I watch him perform and it’s a whole other story. Appearances aside, just taking into account his voice and his dancing, it’s honestly like watching the next step in human evolution.

On a completely different note, I may finally have an opportunity to leave my job soon… or at least, leave temporarily. The thing is, crappy wage and cranky customers aside, my current job is usually pretty fun. I like the people who work there with me. I like the music we listen to. Although… that being said… I don’t like the lack of opportunity for growth. I don’t like wearing all black every day. And when those customers get cranky… well, they really get cranky. And the music we listen to comes from my iPod, which ostensibly I would be permitted to wear and listen to privately at this other place. And the money would be better.

So, I was going to write about what would be better to go for, a job that’s fun or a job that pays better, but I think I kind of just talked myself into the job that pays better. Thanks, blog!

Flashmobs

This is it. in Theaters for 2 weeks. . .NOT!

We all saw this comming, This is it Starring Michael Jackson’s last days is going to stay in theaters over thanks giving. I have to say I actually did see this comming. In a press release that was probably drafted up weeks ago, the chairman of Sony Pictures, Jeff Blake, explained:

“In just 5 days, Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT has become the highest grossing concert film of all time and we are elated by the response to this special film by fans, critics and moviegoers from all over the world. With this kind of global response, it’s clear that the motion picture deserves an extended run and we are going to do everything we can to make the film available to everyone who wants to see Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT on the big screen.”

Yay!!

Water Cooler Ed. 8

Welcome to the eighth edition in the series of the Water Cooler – appears every Sunday on this blog. This feature will highlight what’s hot, topical and up for discussion.

Here we go.

Politics

What motivates you to vote for a political candidate?

Is his/her marriage really important to you?

Is marriage a prerequisite to serve at the highest level?

NO, if you ask me.

However, it appears that politicians have to be married to even start a campaign. While divorces are on an all time high, it would seem we have forced politicians in a life that they don’t personally desire and that makes everything a lie.

Most times in political commentaries we focus on family life; to say political marriages makes the candidate more normal and thus has the capacity to vote on legislations that matter to you as a citizen. Married politicians are projected to be more caring and family oriented in campaigns. Although that may be true; when it isn’t going well our ‘expectations’ force them to live a lie to remain where we have forced them to be. Being married doesn’t say you have higher moral standing than those who aren’t.  What is says is that you have decided to walk life’s journey with this special person.

Business

In a bid to stimulate the economy, the Jamaica Observer organized Fashion Night Out where fashion/retail outlets slashed their prices by large percentages up to 70% to generate high sales. Weeks ago, I had a haircut in the capital city, Kingston and at around 6pm after leaving the barber salon it was like a ghost town outside. I wondered to myself why the city was so quiet. I blamed the current economy and the recession. I should have considered that we have cultured our habits this way and this was the result. More recently, I had an acquaintance who moved to Jamaica from New York (the city that never sleeps) and after a week here he returned because the city was dead by sunset. It struck me then that we have a major problem. I appreciate the efforts what Fashion Night Out promoted and anticipate more FNOs. Over in Barbados, our neighbouring Caribbean island they have introduced legislation to have retailers open 24-7. Talk about competition and new ways of doing things. Retailers claimed the night a success which can only be good at the end of the ‘night.’

Entertainment

This is it.

I watched the Michael Jackson documentary and thought it s stunning. The producers of the 50 minute documentary were able to capture the king of pop in his rehearsals before he passed away. I was impressed with the footage because it told the story we heard of Michael Jackson and now we were able to relive the intimate moments of him without the screaming fans and blaring lights. There is a message within the documentary for every aspiring entertainer which must not be missed. Giving your best each time is of paramount importance and ensuring your delivery will be remembered by those who see it. That is what made MJ what he was and so many artistes today. I sat and only imagined This is it with all the lights, screaming fans and Michael Jackson delivering his final set of shows stamping This is it into history; he never had the time.

Michael Jackson : This is It

Vendredi 30 Novembre 2009, la sotie du documentaire concert “This is It”  en Tunisie, l’ultime homage à Michael Jackson.

Un  site web « This is not it » a même été crée par des fans.
